We are looking for a dependable Accounting Clerk to join a local government office for a short-term contract assignment. In this role, you will help support tax collection activities, manage payment-related records, and assist residents in an organized office setting. This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys detailed clerical accounting work, values accuracy, and can provide courteous service while handling sensitive financial information.

Responsibilities:
• Record tax-related payments accurately and maintain organized financial documentation in accordance with local government procedures.
• Receive and process payments made by cash, check, and card while ensuring each transaction is entered correctly.
• Perform high-volume data entry and review records carefully to identify and correct discrepancies.
• Assist community members with payment questions and provide clear, courteous service during in-person or office interactions.
• Support daily clerical accounting tasks, including invoice handling, file maintenance, and updates to internal records.
• Coordinate with coworkers to keep office operations running efficiently and help resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Protect confidential financial and customer information by following established privacy and compliance standards.• Prior experience in accounting support, bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or administrative office work is strongly preferred.
• Strong data entry ability with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Comfortable interacting with the public and providing attentive customer service.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Familiarity with accounting systems such as QuickBooks or similar software is a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, stay organized, and meet short-term deadlines.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
